Yarra Went Where?
Wow, another post. Spoil yourself and read on.
So, a few weeks back we Cassons found ourselves in the company of a four day weekend, and with a bit of planning arranged to spend it in the Yarra Valley with our friends from Sydney.
The Yarra Valley is a famous wine region that rests just above Melbourne and is a couple of hours drive from Geelong. It has some magnificent countryside and is host to a multitude of award winning wineries, restaurants and tourist attractions. It also has some palatial accommodation to rest your head between bouts of drinking, eating and walking (walking between wines vats that is, not the perambulating along footpaths to explore the countryside type of walking).
Our dwelling of choice was this place (click on the link): http://www.beautifulaccommodation.com/properties/dalblair-bed-and-breakfast and it didn’t disappoint. The owner was easy to get on with and cooked a fresh continental style breakfast for us every morning. Waking up to the smell of fresh croissants and other home cooked food was a marvellous way to start the day.
Once we finally managed to pull ourselves away from our superb accommodation we toured the area looking to sample as much of it as we could. Obviously we stopped at every winery and coffee shop possible but we also stumbled across art galleries, museums, a chocolate factory, public art, reservoirs, scenic viewing areas, quirky bric-a-brac shops, stunning dining experiences, a maze (nearly burnt it down) and idiots that shouldn’t have a driving licence (nearly shunted a few of them off the road).
We were all surprised by our time in the Yarra Valley because we didn’t know what to expect from an area of Victoria that wasn’t really that far away from home. Normally we like to travel further afield and forsake what’s on our doorstep.
After our time in the Yarra Valley we we’re left wondering what else is in our back yard. Time, and this blog space, will tell all.
